Becoming a personal trainer is relatively straightforward however, the attributes and personal qualities required to succeed as a PT can be a little harder to come by. The industry is full of great personal trainers and spending some time looking at their process highlights that there is no one size fits all approach to success.
While a personal training course will arm you with the skills to conduct great coaching, a desire to help others, great communication skills, a passion for fitness and a client focussed mindset are crucial to success.
The first stages to becoming a personal trainer is a course. If you have little training experience/are brand new to the fitness industry you can start with a Level 2 course. This can be followed up by the more advanced Level 3 course in personal training . You can choose to combine these courses and complete them as one, to form a total career training package, or you can complete them individually, depending on your needs.
If you’ve enrolled on a Level 2 fitness instructor course then full time learners can expect to qualify within 2 weeks. If you are a part time learner, the course can take from 6-8 weeks.
If you opt for a Level 3 personal training course, a full time learner can complete the course in as little as 4 weeks. Part time learners can expect to complete the course in 8 weeks.
While courses can be completed in these time-frames, these are just guidelines. Each learner is unique, with specific needs and styles of study. Learners are excited to take the next steps towards a career in fitness, but it’s important not to rush the learning process. The more attention you can give to the course the greater the benefit is to you and your studies.
Our courses utilise blended learning. You will work on your own at home, working through the course material, from there (and when you are ready) you will take part in practical activities with other students and our top coaches. We have venues around the country able to run practical training and assessments regularly.
We are fortunate to have our own venues around the country, as well as partnerships with some of the country's best gyms. We are able to run the practical elements of our personal training courses in or near most towns and cities in the UK.
Our personal training courses and qualifications make use of blended learning, you study from home and work through the course material and then complete practical elements at one of our locations. That doesn’t mean you’re on your own when you study from home. At every point you will have access to a dedicated support tutor.
Our tutors are available throughout the duration of the course and are available to you Monday - Friday via phone or email. Your tutor is a qualified personal trainer and is there to help you through the course.
We also have a support team available who can help with general course enquiries.
Finally, our courses provide learning resources such as; workbooks, mock exams, quizzes, video, and insight from experts in their field.
Quite simply, we don’t have the overheads that other providers have. We have our own venues, and our personal trainers also operate as our tutors. Using their years of experience to deliver “real world” type classes. As we have very few costs associated with running courses, we are able to pass those savings on to our learners.
The awarding body for our courses is ActiveIQ. All of our courses are fully recognised by REPs and CIMSPA.
